Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) is the specialty of Dental Medicine which covers management of various diseases, disorders and conditions of soft and hard tissue of the mouth and jaw which requires surgical approach. Residency Program in OMFS in Faculty of Dental Medicine Universitas Airlangga holds a vision to become a reputable, international-rank residency program in OMFS which uphold humanity, moral and ethics values. The mission of the program is to conduct OMFS residency program based on internationaly-standardized curriculum in order to produce professional and competent graduates, to encourage residents to continuously develop their hard skills as well as soft skills in a balanced way, and to be able to sustain integrated scientific research which is aimed at the development of oral and maxillofacial surgery science and improvement of the patients’ oral health and quality of life.
This is a six-year program leading to combined degree of Master in Clinical Medicine (MKK) and Specialist in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (Sp.BMM). The program consists of few phases which consist of basic medical sciences lectures and courses, clinical medicine hospital attachments, basic and general academic lectures, Pre-Surgery courses, basic general surgery courses and training, and oral and maxillofacial surgery courses and clinical training. During OMFS phase the residents are trained to acquire competency in the surgical management of impacted teeth, hard and soft tissue pathologies, orofacial infections, oral cysts and tumors, dentoalveolar and maxillofacial trauma, and congenital deformities. Basic and clinical research are conducted during OMFS phases leading to the completion of final paper as well as thesis for master degree.
