ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The science of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is a typical branch of dentistry as it covers surgical management of various types of oral diseases and disorders which therefore require holistic treatment approach necessitating integration of basic and applied sciences in medicine and dentistry. This responsibility is taken by highly dedicated teaching staffs in Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Faculty of Dental Medicine, Universitas Airlangga, prioritizing patient’s safety while upholding human values.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department of Faculty of Dental Medicine at Universitas Airlangga will become a center of education has long been desired and fought for. This is because of the lofty desire to continue to develop Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and devote that knowledge to the benefit of mankind who need handling expertise of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

MISSION

The mission of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department of Faculty of Dental Medicine Universitas Airlangga is:

 

  1. Conducting oral and maxillofacial surgery education programs that use international standard curriculum so as to produce graduates who are professional and competent in their field
  2. Organizing an oral and maxillofacial surgery education program that encourages the students to constantly develop themselves both in hard skill and soft skill in a balanced manner
  3. Produce research products that are useful for improving public health and development of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery that is conducted in an integrated and sustainable manner.

CURRICULLUM

The curriculum of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery for undergraduate students provide a strong basis for achievement of competence in the field of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. The topics covered in the curriculum include local anesthesia, tooth extraction, orofacial infection, dentoalveolar surgery, dentoalveolar and maxillofacial trauma, oral cysts and tumors, temporomandibular joint disorders. The teaching methods include classical lectures, student-centered learning and skills laboratory

The curriculum of Oral and Maxillofacial at professional level leads to the achievement of competence in making diagnosis and treatment plan for various diseases and disorders in oral cavity, closed and open method of tooth extraction, management of orofacial infection, evaluation of maxillofacial trauma, infections and surgical treatments. Affective aspects are constantly evaluated in order to produce professional graduates with good ethics
