The science and technology in the field of dental health in the last few decades was developed rapidly. Researchers all over the world were keep working on research and scientific publications. The research and publications were sometimes unbalanced. Many research results in the field of dentistry were not delivered quickly and adequately to dentists around the world, therefore, it was necessary to hold a joint meeting between researchers from several countries in the dental regenerative field, so the desire to research and publish was also increasing. Faculty of Dental Medicine Universitas Airlangga strive to improve the quality of Indonesian dentists, as well as publish the results of research in the field of dentistry in order to inform the results of existing research and to be received by dentists around the world, especially in the dental regenerative field by holding an international scientific seminar on a regular basis, one of them is 5th Joint Scentific Meeting in Dentistry (JSMiD). This seminar is expected to transfer the advanced dentistry technology with other countries.

Therefore, at this symposium will be explained some findings from international experts, which can be the basis for the efforts of prevention of dental and oral problems that are comprehensive, ranging from the biomolecular level, the level of primary teeth, the level of replacement teeth, to the dental health behavior engineering and mouth for children. The solution is through comprehensive oral health education and monitored from the beginning of the child’s life planning, until the child is established later. UNAIR NEWS – Airlangga University’s Faculty of Dentistry (FKG) opened the international conference agenda entitled The 5th Joint Scientific Meeting in Dentistry (JSMiD) on Tuesday (2/10) at Kahuripan Hall, 3rd Floor, UNAIR Rectorate Building. It is planned that the agenda will be held for two days, starting from Tuesday (2/10) to Wednesday (3/10). Several researchers from Japan, Malaysia and South Korea were presented. Among other things, Prof. Kurihara Hidemi, DDS., Ph.D .; Prof. Takahashi Nobuhiro, DDS, Ph.D; Prof. Maeda Takeyasu, DDS, Ph.D .; Guang Hong, DDS., Ph.D .; Prof. Koichi Kato, M. Agr., Ph.D .; and Meekyoung Son, DDS., MDS., Ph.D Chairperson of the 5th JSMiD Committee Irma Josefina Savitri, drg., Ph.D., Sp. Perio (K) revealed that FKG routinely held similar activities. This year the FKG has three international conference implementation agendas. Namely, in August, October and November. The agenda of such activities is very important. Considering, continued Irma, the media needed to see the development of certain research field issues. Especially dentistry which includes internationally. Including the need for media transfer of knowledge. Both from outside to FKG and from FKG research to outsiders. “There are a lot of our studies that have not yet been published so this target is also for Scopus international publications,” he said. During the conference, 109 research posters were exhibited. Plus, said Irma, there were 126 research papers ready to be published in Scopus indexed journals. “Therefore, the target of this conference is the PPDGS (Specialist Dentist Professional Program, Red) students,” he said. Irma added that the collaboration from cross-national universities had been held by FKG, both in the form of education there and student exchange. Even a number of joint research collaborations have been held. For example, his research on herbal medicines for preventive medicine. “At that time I was working with Horoshima University, Professor Kurihara. I learned about how to make a drug that can prevent diseases in the oral cavity, especially periodontal disease. Also, microbium research is being explored, “he said. Regenerative therapy Irma explained that so far many had holistic thinking about dental health. That is, we consider it only as a tooth, not part of our body. Therefore, the discussion in the conference refers more to dental health as part of our body. “So, we start thinking of using a substance from our own body to regenerate in our body. That is what we are discussing now. With very high compatibility, “he said. However, Irma acknowledged that this requires a process that is not short and easy. Because, must require a very precise formula. However, he is confident and optimistic that regenerative therapy will work well. “In FKG, this research has also been done a lot,” he added. At the end, for the holding of the conference, Irma hoped the output in the form of research publications could be achieved. In addition, the transfer of knowledge can be truly felt by PPDGS students. That way, the skills and skills of students in researching and caring for patients are better because they have the basis of science. “Furthermore, we are able to spawn researchers, as well as research. Including spawning patents again in the future, “he said. “It’s also important, with this kind of event, we can improve networking. Between world researchers and people all over the world so they can also see Indonesia as one of the research centers, “he concluded. (*) Author: Fenoria Rifa’i Ferry With the 5th JSMiD or Joint Scientific Meeting in Dentistry held, this was the beginning of a series of events to celebrate the 90th year of the Faculty of Dental Medicine in Indonesia.
