Faculty of Dental Medicine in Airlangga University once again carved out its innovative achievement on Friday (June 14, 2019). The Closing Ceremony was held for the completion of the Short Term-Summer Course education which was attended by 2 (two) students from Radboud University Nijmegen, Netherlands.
Petra Norbertine Broshuis and Teresia Agnes Anna Maria Bremers, two students from Radboud University, the Netherlands who had the opportunity to become the first graduates of the Short Term-Summer Course education held by Faculty of Dental Medicine in Airlangga University in mid-2019.
“We are very pleased to have the opportunity to take part in the learning process in the community here, because in our place of origin (Radboud Univ., Red) the Public Health Dentistry field does not exist,” said Agnes in a session of impressions in the Dean Meeting Room.
On the first occasion of the Short Term-Summer Course education, the Department of Community Dental Health (IKGM) became a starter in releasing this cross-country education scheme. Short Term-Summer Course Education entitled Dynamic Integrated Education in Oral Health Community Empowerment. This program was well-completed by Agnes and Petra and succeeded in achieving proud values.
“Both Agnes and Petra, both managed to prove themselves that as international students, can play an active and fast role in the learning process in Indonesian local communities, especially Surabaya. It was proven that the achievement of indicator values was good, even they managed to teach a number of Dutch languages in the community of mothers in Keputih “. Met at the beginning of the arrival of the two Dutch students, Dr. Darmawan Setijanto, drg., M.Kes as Dean of the FKG Airlangga University said the beginning of the initiation of this Summer Course program. “We have offers of innovative and interesting dentistry education in our Faculty, all of which are contained in the Faculty’s Preceptorship which we always disseminate to the world audience at every foreign event we follow.”
The Preceptorship of the Faculty offers program details and competencies that will be passed and achieved by prospective international students in the Dynamic Integrated Education program in the Oral Health Community Empowerment Program. So far, hundreds of copies of Preceptorship from the faculty have been spread to many foreign universities, “Yes, we always offer our Preceptorship in many foreign events, thank God we always meet prospective colleagues and students who are very enthusiastic in asking about our program,” said Dr.Irma J. Savitri, drg., Sp. Perio (K)., Ph.D as chairman of International Relations of Faculty (AddMe).
Found in a separate place, Gilang R. Sabdho Wening, drg., M.Kes as Supervisor of Professional Education Program in Department of Community Dental Health (IKGM) stated, “The international program of the Department of IKGM is actually a form of adaptation of student co-ass street vendor activities to the global version of dental health empowerment program . In the end, international students will also be assessed on their ability to analyze dental & oral health of the community, how to do dissemination in the classroom, and propose what programs are appropriate to improve community dental health status “.
The implementations are in the form of: Collect and analyze data and other information to guide evidence-based policy and program development; Monitor and evaluate the impact of programs on population health; Evaluate health care financing, policy and delivery mechanisms used in private and public funds programs in the context of ethical, political, scientific, socio-cultural, economic, health care workforce and financing considerations; Evaluate how the social, cultural, environmental, political, legal, economic and other determinants influence oral health; Interpretation of surveillance data in context of the historical trends and current epidemiology of oral health and disease; Calculate and interpret indices that describe oral health status; Communicate effectively during presentations to professionals and lay audiences; Develop program goals, performance measures, and work schedules for task accomplishments; and Assess the need for programs or initiatives; and Develop and manage programs by allocating and adjusting resources; which is an indicator of the achievement of these international students.
“The indicators of learning achievement are presented and adapted from the current global-international competency achievement framework in the world”, added Gilang.
